The Humane Society of the United States Cool vs Cruel 2011 National Finalist
The Humane Society of the United States and the Art Institutes sponsor the Cool vs. Cruel competition annually. The competition challenges Art Institutes students in fashion design programs throughout the United States and in Vancouver to creatively reinterpret and replace animal fur on runway designs. Students use key elements from one of four runway designs as inspiration for an original animal-friendly creation. Keisha Kirkland-Smith was chosen as one of the eighteen national finalists to represent her school from among 200 entries.
Best Menswear - The Illinois Institute of Art - Schaumburg - "Raw Beauty" Fashion Show
The Illinois Institute of Art-Schaumburg showcases garments by design students in an annual fashion show. Keisha entered two men's looks into the 2012 show which were judged by a panel of industry professionals. In addition to being praised for her impeccable construction skills and attention to detail, she won the award for Best Menswear among the other entries.
